Pre-Wedding Shoot
The best time for a pre-wedding shoot is three to six months before the wedding, in the cool, clear months from October to February, at sunrise or in the last hour before sunset. The pre-wedding shoot, also called the engagement shoot, has become common, though many couples still question whether they need one. Skeptics might be wrong.
Getting to know the photographer better is one of the key benefits. The photographer learns the couple's interaction style and formality level.
Couples feel more in love and can rekindle their romance on set. It creates lasting memories.
How Many Months Before the Wedding
Should You Shoot?
We suggest doing your pre wedding shoot about three to six months before the wedding. This window works well for most couples for a few simple reasons.
First, it leaves enough time for editing. Selecting photos, retouching them and cutting a film or song takes a few weeks. Second, you will want some of these photos for save-the-date cards, digital invites and social media posts, and those usually go out two to three months before the wedding. Third, many couples like to show the photos or film at the wedding itself, on a screen or a welcome board, and that needs the final files well before the day.
Shooting too early has its own problem. If you shoot a year ahead, your hair, look or even the season may be very different by the wedding. Shooting too late, in the last few weeks, adds stress at a time when you are already busy, and leaves no room for a second attempt if it rains.
If your wedding date is close, a shoot four to six weeks before is still possible. Just tell us early so we can plan the editing around your dates.

Winter: October to February
This is the most popular time. The air is clear, the light is soft for most of the day and the weather is cool, so heavy outfits and lehengas are comfortable. Forts, gardens and lakes all look good. Because it is peak season, popular spots and dates get booked quickly, so plan early.
Monsoon: June to September
The hills around Pune turn deep green, waterfalls start flowing and mist rolls over places like Sinhagad, Mulshi and Lonavala. The photos can look magical. The risk is rain, slippery paths and sudden changes in light, so keep a backup date, choose outfits that can handle a little water and avoid long, heavy trains.
Summer: March to May
Days are hot, the midday light is harsh and the landscape is dry and brown. You can still get lovely photos if you shoot at sunrise and in the last hour before sunset, carry water, and pick shaded gardens or indoor sets for the middle of the day.

- January and February: Cool mornings, clear skies and soft light all day. Among the best months for any style of shoot.
- March to May: Hot and dry. Shoot only at sunrise and sunset, and use shaded or indoor spots in between.
- June: The monsoon usually arrives around mid-June. Early rains bring dramatic clouds, but the hills are not fully green yet.
- July and August: Peak monsoon. The greenest, mistiest landscapes and full waterfalls, with the highest chance of rain on your date.
- September: Rain eases, the hills are still green and the light often clears in the evenings. A good balance of greenery and dry weather.
- October: The monsoon withdraws. Early October can be warm and humid; from mid-October the weather settles and the peak season begins.
- November and December: Cool, dry and clear. The most popular months, so book dates and locations early.
Monsoon Pre-Wedding Shoots
From July to September the ghats around Pune are at their most beautiful, and many couples choose the monsoon on purpose for the green hills, mist and waterfalls. It needs a little more planning than a winter shoot.
- Keep a backup date in case of very heavy rain, and decide the day before whether to go ahead.
- Choose light, quick-drying fabrics and avoid long trains that soak up mud. Carry a towel and a spare pair of footwear.
- Transparent umbrellas, raincoats in bright colours and covered spots like verandas or cafes make good backups and props.
- Stay away from cliff edges, fast-flowing water and slippery rocks, and follow any local closures at waterfalls and dams.
Best Time of Day
for the Shoot
The best light comes during golden hour: roughly the first hour after sunrise and the last hour before sunset. The sun is low, so the light is warm and soft, faces look even and there are no hard shadows under the eyes.
A sunrise start also means fewer people at public places like gardens and forts, and cooler weather. An evening slot gives you warm sunset colours, and after sunset there is a short blue hour that works well with city lights or fairy lights.
Around midday the light is harsh and flat. We usually use that time for travel, outfit changes, lunch or indoor and shaded spots.
Timing Around Festivals
and Wedding Season
The calendar matters as much as the weather. A few things to keep in mind when you pick your date:
- Peak wedding season: November to February has the most wedding dates, so photographers, makeup artists and popular venues book up fast. If your wedding falls in this window, shoot a few months earlier, for example in September or October.
- Ganeshotsav and Diwali: During the Ganesh festival, central Pune is crowded and traffic is heavy, and around Diwali many people travel and vendors take time off. Plan city locations around these dates, or use them for festive-themed photos on purpose.
- Weekends and holidays: Forts, gardens and hill stations like Lonavala get crowded on weekends and long weekends. A weekday shoot gives you emptier frames and more privacy.
- Your own schedule: Avoid the last few weeks before the wedding, when shopping, rituals and guests take over. Leave enough time for editing and save-the-date cards.
How to Plan
Your Shoot Day
- Outfits: Plan two or three outfits, from traditional to casual. Choose colours that stand out from the location, for example bright colours against green hills and soft pastels in gardens.
- Permissions: Many forts, gardens, resorts and private sets need permission, and some charge a fee. Check this before the day so you are not stopped at the gate.
- Backup date: Keep one spare date, especially in the monsoon, in case rain or poor light spoils the plan.
- Travel time: Group nearby locations together so you do not lose the best light on the road.
- Hair and makeup: For a sunrise shoot, makeup often starts before dawn. Fix the timing with your artist in advance.
- Small comforts: Carry water, snacks, comfortable footwear for walking between spots, and a small kit with safety pins and tissues.
- Invitation photos: If you want a photo for your wedding invitation or save-the-date, tell us in advance. The best ones tell your story and show real emotion, with a setting that suits you, such as hills in the background if you both love hiking.

The Traditional Theme
With the traditional theme, you think about where you came from and show parts of your culture in your photos. Find settings with age-old charm. Wear something simple, cute and classic. Ask your photographer for black-and-white or sepia effects.
The Trendy Theme
Find beautiful dresses that will stand out in the photos, whether in black and white or bright colours. Shoot at a famous place or in a beautiful natural setting.
The Casual Theme
